Nifty solutions to tricky problems

Difficult isn't impossible, and complex isn't incomprehensible. Monkeyglandin is aboutĀ usingĀ science to help you answer your questions, whatever they are.

Synthesising the evidence

Science

Rational analysis depends on seeing the world not as we wish it to be or as we fear it may be, but as it is, unadorned. Scientific methods provide a way of doing that by modelling complex situations and testing those models. These models help us break down problems and see a way through them.

Medicine

Medical decision-making can be tricky. It relies on applying scientific understanding and statistical evidence to make sense of what is happening to individuals. It requires clear communication, an honest expression of uncertainty, and humanity.

Statistics

To see the world as it is requires an understanding of uncertainty. Statistics is the language of uncertainty. When we know the bounds of our knowledge, our decisions are more rational and we can better explain them.
